The fortress of PriamÓr dominates the horizon: it was and it is the symbol of the city of Savona: on the stronghold the first nucleus of Savona is risen, it was the "Savo oppidum alpinum" about which Tito Livio spoke; after, it was rebuilt from the Republic of Genoa in 1542. Today the fortress hosts the Museo Internazionale di Studi Liguri, the Pertini Museum, exhibitions, concerts, conventions, summery discotheques, live shows. In Savona there are many medieval towers, among which the Tower Leon Pancaldo and the Tower of the Brandale.

The churches of the city are interesting and deserve a visit. The most important is the Cathedral of the Assunta, that is dated to the 15th century, and was constructed after the demolition of the ancient cathedral, situated on the hill of the PriamÓr. Pope Sisto IV was from Savona: to his impulse we due the construction of the two Cloisters and the Sistina Chapel; it is the only one beyond to the famous Sistina Chapel in Rome, and has been recently restored and is open. Going through Piazza Mameli we can stop in front of the War Memorial: every day at 18.00 a bell strikes 21 times to remember the people who died for Italy.

Many other historical and artistic treasures wait for you: Savona is today a lively city, rebuilt after the bombings of the Second World War, with a port that represents the greater economic resource of the area, and a good touristic development.
