The city of Pietra Ligure extends on one of the most beautiful coasts of Liguria; it due its name to a castle that dominated the surrounding creek, "Castrum et Oppidum Petrae", that is the castle made of stone, built in the 7th and 8th centuries.
On the white sandy beach, there is the colorful seaside promenade, flanked by high palms, flowers, typical houses painted with bright colours.
Among the interesting places, we signal the Castle, widened in the period of pirates invasions (6th-9th century), it reached its current dimension in the 16th century. Recently the fortress has been restored and it is now used for exhibitions and shows. Interesting is also the church of San Nicoḷ, built after the miracle of San Nicola, that saved the populationfrom the plague in 1525.
Pietra Ligure moreover offers many opportunities of entertainment to the tourist, thanks to the yearly festivals, among which we remember the Infiorate, and the biggest festival of the town, the Festivity of the Miracle of San Nicola.
