Levanto is a city of ancient foundation, situated in the center of a colourful valley, covered with olive trees and pines and facing the sea.
Today it is a famous touristic locality, thanks to the limpid sea, the beautiful beach and the rocky coast; but it is beautiful not only during the summer! Here the climate is mild also during the winter, and perhaps the best season to spent here is the autumn, when the scents of the grape harvest and then of the olives fill up the air, and the warm colors of the leaves contrast with the blue of the sea.
A walk in the center of Levanto will bring you to cover Via Guani, that is surrounded by constructions of medieval origin, and where you will find some historical buildings (like the House of the Podestà and the Palazzo delle Sirene) and the Via Garibaldi, delimited from a series of palaces of the 17th and 18th century, that represent the second phase of development of the village of Levanto.
Finally, do not forget the medieval Castle, constructed in order to defend the city, and the walls, mostly conserved in their original structure, that are dated to 1265.
