Cogoleto

The origins of Cogoleto are very ancient and probably they go back around the 6th and 7th century. The city claims to have the native house of Columbus, but the only sure thing is that here his family lived.

In the historical center of the city there are many interesting buildings. The most ancient are dated to the Middle Ages. Cogoleto had a fortification to protect the city. It was a true Castle, situated in strategic position: it was demolished by Napoleon in 1809, in order to built the road from Nice to Rome.

Cogoleto is connected to Arenzano with a charming promenade, entitled to the singer Fabrizio De André. The promenade continues also until the Passeggiata Europa of Varazze. Artistic beauties and an evocative historical center make of Cogoleto a destination appreciated by the tourists, also for the sea and the beautiful holls around it. Moreover, in the summer there are many shows: on 10 August, the day of San Lorenzo, there is a show with fireworks.
