Bergeggi
The origin of the village of Bergeggi is dated to the Roman age, even if in the territory there are some remains of the Neolithic Age; today it is a small town on the slopes of the Monte Sant' Elena, in a position that dominates the creek.
The historical center is evocative, with the parish church dedicated to San Martino. Bergeggi is the ideal destination for those who love the sport and the activities linked to the sea, as swimming, sailing, windsurf. The wealth of the sea allows snorkeling.
In front of the city, on the horizon, there is the small Island of Bergeggi, overgrown with vegetation, inhabited only by birds. The island was once inhabited: it was seat of a convent, then of military buildings. It is picturesque, as its Grotta Marina, a cave, nearly dipped in the sea, inhabited in the Prehistory. The sea that surrounds the island is today protected by Marine Reserve.
