Ameglia

Situated on the top of a hill, Ameglia still has the characteristics of an ancient medieval village and is characterized by the castle of the Bishops of Luni, dated to the 13th century, and the tower of the 10th century that stands out in the historical center.

The area has long sandy beaches in the east and steep cliffs in the west; Ameglia moreover is constituted by various hamlets, among which Bocca di Magra, where there is a fascinating convent, called Santa Croce del Corvo, founded in 1176, that inside has an important wooden Christ dated 1100, and the ruins of a roman villa of the first century before Christ.

Another hamlet, that surely deserves a visit, is Montemarcello, considered one of the most beautiful towns of Italy: it is a fortified medieval village that dominates both the Val di Magra and the Gulf of La Spezia. Near the town there is the Botanical Garden of Montemarcello.
