Albenga is a modern city that does not forget its ancient historical roots: indeed, in the old Liguria language it was called Albium Ingaunum, and it has been an important center for the foundation of the Roman empire in the western Liguria.
The historical center of Albenga has unimaginable treasures of art: the ancient towers, medieval walls, monuments, the Baptistry, the Cathedral, the noble palaces, some of which accommodate interesting museums, as the Roman Naval Museum, and several religious buildings.
Here the tourist finds also a pure nature, and, watching the horizon, he can see the small island Gallinara, a nature Reserve. On the island there is a tower of the 16th century, built on the ruins of an ancient Benedictine convent, dedicated to San Martino di Tours, who seems to have lived here a part of his life.
The city of Albenga moreover offers beaches and clear sea, and, above all in summer, several cultural initiatives and entertainments.
